A prominent house plans design company faced a challenge where their clients struggled to visualize how their future homes would look on their actual property. The company needed a solution to effectively merge digital house plans with the real worlto connect with the company's internal software and databases seamlessly. To address this issue, the company partnered with Another Reality Studio (ARS) to develop a cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) application specifically designed for residential house plans. The goal was to help clients better understand and visualize their future homes in real-world settings.

ARS’s talented development team designed a custom AR application that allows users to scan a rendering of a house and see a virtual 3D model of that house superimposed onto their actual property. This innovative application uses AR technology to bring house designs to life, enabling customers to view a realistic 3D representation of their future homes on their own lots. The app also integrates AR house placement features that allow users to visualize various house designs from the company’s catalog in real-world environments.

The app includes several advanced features to enhance the user experience. It offers custom API integration to seamlessly connect with the company's internal software and databases. The app provides high-fidelity visualizations that offer a more realistic experience compared to traditional 2D plans. A notable feature is the camera snapshot option, which generates photo-realistic renderings complete with shadows, lighting, and material textures to make the design appear as if it were already built. Users have access to the top 40 house plans from the catalog and can explore these plans using 2D, 3D, and AR modes. The app’s 3D Viewer allows users to navigate through the design using standard finger gestures for a comprehensive, bird’s-eye view of the house layout from multiple perspectives.

The project began with the ARS project manager assessing the concept’s feasibility and collaborating with the client on user design, project estimation, and planning. The team established clear milestones and a timeline for project completion. The developer team lead worked with an in-house artist to create 3D product models and realistic materials for the app. Utilizing ARKit and ARCore within Unreal Engine, the developers implemented the AR features and integrated APIs using native languages to connect the app with the company’s internal infrastructure. After the initial delivery, ARS continued to support the client with maintenance, new projects, and additional feature requests. Additionally, 360-degree video was used for personal introductions and a FAQ section with the designer. ARS successfully delivered a custom AR home viewing app that allows clients to visualize their top 40 house plans at various locations using augmented reality. The app provides users with the ability to view site lines and lighting from unlimited perspectives, offering a more immersive and detailed experience of their future homes.
